Continuing fight for democratic rights will be biggest homage to Comrade Yechury: Prabir Purkayastha

Prabir Purkayastha, editor of NewsClick, stated that the most meaningful tribute to the late CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury is to continue the struggle for democratic and electoral rights. The remarks were made during a seminar in Khammam commemorating the second anniversary of Yechury's passing.
Why it matters
It highlights the ongoing political discourse regarding the state of Indian democracy and the legacy of prominent leftist leaders.
NewsClick founding editor Prabir Purkayastha said that continuing the fight for democratic rights and taking forward the work of former CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury would be the biggest homage to the late leader.
Describing Comrade Yechury as a great leader who had the ability to bring together different sections of people in the fight for democratic rights, Mr. Purkayastha said the challenges before the younger generation included preserving the democratic rights and protecting people’s electoral rights and the right to free and fair elections.
He was speaking at a seminar on ‘Indian Democracy – Challenges’ organised in Khammam on Sunday evening to mark the second death anniversary of Comrade Sitarama Yechury.
“The ground is ready and people are willing. Are we there to lead and unite them? These are the challenges before us. How do we unite ourselves?” he said.
