Connolly took the reins back in August after Tiernan Lynch departed.
He's had to deal with a significant fallout between star man James McClean and the club , while stabilising Derry's erratic form. They're fifth, two points behind fourth-placed Shelbourne with four games to play.
As he savoured a sweet win out west, Connolly told RTÉ Sport: "I think in life everything happens and you just don't know what's going to come. It's been a whirlwind sort of few months. I'm just so proud of the players.
