Congress MLCs condemn Udupi MLA’s remarks against Rahul Gandhi

Congress MLCs have demanded strict action against Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna for making derogatory and inflammatory remarks against Rahul Gandhi. The Congress party claims the MLA's comments are unbecoming of a legislator and threaten public peace.
Why it matters
The incident underscores the intense political polarization and the ongoing debate regarding decorum and inflammatory rhetoric in Indian legislative discourse.
Congress MLCs Manjunath Bhandary and Ivan D’Souza condemned the alleged derogatory and inflammatory remarks made by Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna against Leader of the Opposition of Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi at a programme hosted by the BJP in Udupi on Tuesday.
In a statement, Mr. Bhandary said strict action should be taken against Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna for his remarks. Mr. Gandhi stood by the students’ cause over the NEET-UG paper leak and staged a sit-in protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence to condemn the lathi charge on protesting students.
At the programme organised by the BJP in Udupi, the MLA allegedly referred to Mr. Gandhi as a person under the influence of narcotics. He then threatened to attack Mr. Gandhi and his family members. Condemning the remarks, Mr. Bhandary said the other BJP MLAs on stage, who remained silent, had a moral responsibility to make their views public.
