Congress MLA resigns after Indi and Chadchan taluks not included in drought-hit list in Karnataka
Congress MLA Yashavant Rayagoud V. Patil resigned from the Karnataka Assembly to protest the exclusion of his constituency's taluks from the state's drought-hit list. This marks his second resignation this year, following a previous attempt related to ministerial appointments.
Why it matters
The resignation highlights political tensions regarding drought relief distribution and internal party dynamics in Karnataka.
Yashavant Rayagoud V. Patil, MLA and Congress leader from Indi in Vijayapura district, resigned from the membership of the Assembly in protest against Indi and Chadchan taluks not being included in the list of drought-hit areas in Karnataka.
He submitted his resignation to Speaker Gurupadagouda Sanganagouda Patil in Bengaluru on September 23.
He told reporters that he was upset with the government of Karnataka failing to declare drought in the two taluks, despite several pleas.
This is the second time he has resigned this year.
