Congress leader seeks SC reservation for Pattan, Nandikur Zilla Panchayat constituencies
Congress leader Gundappa Londankar has demanded that specific Zilla Panchayat constituencies in Kalaburagi be reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates. He alleges that the community has faced political exclusion for decades and that the reservation process lacks transparency.
Why it matters
The issue touches on the broader debate regarding political representation and social justice for marginalized communities in local government.
Congress leader Gundappa Londankar has urged senior party leaders and authorities to reserve the Pattan and Nandikur Zilla Panchayat constituencies in the Kalaburagi South Assembly constituency for Scheduled Caste (SC) persons, alleging that the community has been denied fair representation in local bodies for decades.
Addressing a press conference in Kalaburagi city on Tuesday (October 13), Mr. Londankar said the Pattan Zilla Panchayat constituency had never been reserved for SC persons since its inception. The community had not secured reservation in either the zilla or taluk panchayat in the constituency for the past 35 years, resulting in social and political injustice, he alleged.
He stressed the need for transparency and fairness in the allocation of reservations to local body constituencies. The authorities should strictly follow the relevant laws, government guidelines, reservation roster system and official population data while determining the reservation categories, he said.
