Congress appoints G.B. Shashidhara of Arasikere as Hassan DCC president

The Congress party has appointed G.B. Shashidhara as the president of the Hassan District Congress Committee. This appointment follows his long-standing association with the party and his previous electoral involvement in the Arasikere constituency.
Why it matters
The appointment is a strategic move to consolidate party leadership and organizational strength in the Hassan district ahead of future political cycles.
The Congress has appointed senior leader G.B. Shashidhara as president of the Hassan District Congress Committee (DCC).
Mr. Shashidhara, who contested the Arasikere Assembly constituency in 2018 and lost to K.M. Shivalinge Gowda, then a Janata Dal (Secular) [JD(S)] candidate, has had a long association with the Congress. His father, G.S. Basavaraja, represented Arasikere in the State Assembly.
Interestingly, Mr. Shashidhara had announced his decision to quit the Congress in 2023, ahead of the Assembly elections, expressing displeasure over Mr. Shivalinge Gowda’s entry into the party. However, senior party leaders persuaded him to stay on.
