Concern over delay in implementation of MPLADS projects

Officials in a district review meeting have expressed concern over significant delays in implementing projects under the MPLADS scheme. Despite administrative sanctions for many works, only a small fraction have been completed, prompting calls for better coordination.
Why it matters
The delay in local area development projects directly impacts public infrastructure and the delivery of welfare benefits to citizens.
E.T. Mohammed Basheer, MP, and District Collector Vinay Goyal on Saturday (July 18) directed officials to expedite projects under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), expressing concern over delays despite administrative sanction for most works.
Chairing a review meeting here, the Collector instructed officials to complete all sanctioned projects within the stipulated timeframe and resolve technical issues delaying approval of the remaining proposals.
During 2024-25 and 2025-26, the MP recommended 219 projects worth ₹11.52 crore. Administrative sanction was accorded to 136 projects costing ₹7.66 crore. Of these, only nine have been completed, while 127 are at various stages of implementation.
The meeting also reviewed Scheduled Caste development works. Of the 55 projects recommended, only 13 have received administrative sanction, and three have been completed.
