The Compton Chamber of Commerce is requesting an $85,000 check from the city to host friends of Carl Fred Martin, founder and CEO of the Compton Kidz Klub. The proposed guests hail from Gaborone in the Republic of Botswana, as well as the New Juaben South and Mfantseman Municipal Assemblies in Ghana.
The Chamber has previously faced community backlash over its mishandling of COVID-19 relief funds provided by the city. During the pandemic, money was issued to the Chamber to operate a community pantry. Yet, the hours of operation were unclear, and mountains of food were ultimately found rotting in a dumpster next to their city-leased office space.
