Complaints over temple land rent being examined, says Minister Ramesh
Minister S. Ramesh announced that the government is investigating complaints regarding rent collection on temple lands across the state. The department is also looking into allegations of land-grabbing involving a political functionary in Srirangam.

Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister S. Ramesh on Tuesday said the department was examining complaints regarding the rent collected from tenants in temple lands.
Complaints had been received regarding the rents levied on such properties. “We are studying the issue of rent collection, whether the public are being affected and how a systematic solution can be found. The issue exists across the State. We are examining the complaints, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings,” he said.
Referring to the controversy over the alleged encroachment of Srirangam temple land, Mr. Ramesh questioned why a DMK functionary would seek anticipatory bail if the charges against him were false.
