Common thyroid hormone may help prevent brain tumor relapse in children, says study

Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center have discovered that the thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3) may help prevent the recurrence of medulloblastoma in children. By promoting cell differentiation, the hormone encourages tumor cells to mature and stop dividing, potentially improving outcomes when combined with chemotherapy.
Why it matters
This finding offers a promising, less toxic approach to treating aggressive pediatric brain tumors, which currently have a high rate of recurrence.
