Commissioner for non-resident Tamils’ welfare inspects Mandapam camp

Commissioner for Rehabilitation and Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils Sathish visited the Sri Lankan Tamil Rehabilitation Camp in Mandapam near Rameswaram on Wednesday to inspect the facilities and hear the grievances of the residents.
During his visit, Mr. Sathish inspected the newly-constructed houses inside the camp and checked basic infrastructure, including drinking water facility and electricity supply.
Some of the Sri Lankan Tamils, who took refuge in Tamil Nadu due to the economic crisis in Sri Lanka, submitted petitions with Mr. Sathish, expressing their desire to return to their homeland.
Additionally, the camp residents told the Commissioner that they faced difficulties in obtaining ID cards, noting that lack of such identification created hurdles for them while enrolling children in schools and accessing treatment at government hospitals.
