Several Portuguese comedians and artists have announced their withdrawal from a festival organized in Lisbon due to the participation of Jerry Seinfeld and his open support for Israel, reports Euronews.
The first edition of the Lisbon International Humour Festival, called Commedia a La Carte Fest, is scheduled to take place from October 29 to November 1. Despite calls for a boycott, the organizers are currently keeping Jerry Seinfeld as the headliner.
The actress Inês Aires Pereira announced on Saturday the withdrawal of her show "Namastê." Without directly naming the American comedian, she explained that "one of the names persistently defends ideas and actions" that she considers "indefensible."
The comedy duo Cebola Mol, made up of Eduardo Madeira and Filipe Homem Fonseca, also canceled their participation. The two artists accompanied their announcement with the image of a watermelon, which has become a symbol of support for the Palestinian cause.
