College students petition Collector over continued closure of newly inaugurated social justice hostel

College students in Sivaganga have petitioned the District Collector to open a newly constructed social justice hostel that has remained closed since its inauguration in September. Officials cite pending biometric installations and staff recruitment as the reasons for the delay.
Why it matters
The delay in opening public infrastructure directly impacts the living conditions and educational access of students relying on government support.
College students facing hardship due to the continued closure of a newly inaugurated social justice hostel appealed to the Sivaganga District Collector for intervention here on Monday.
Under the control of the Social Justice Department, social justice hostels for school and college female students operate in Kanchirangal, Sivaganga. Due to insufficient space in the college hostel, some of the female students have been accommodated in the school hostel.
Meanwhile, the hostel for school boys on Tiruppattur Road was demolished, and a modern hostel equipped with facilities for college female students was constructed at a cost of ₹9.34 crore.
This hostel, built to accommodate a total of 150 female students, was inaugurated in September by Minister for Natural Resources T. K. Prabhu.
