College authorities catch three students possessing ganja in Mangaluru
Authorities at a college in Mangaluru caught three students in possession of 290 grams of cannabis. The incident follows proactive anti-drug measures and awareness campaigns implemented by the college and local police.
Why it matters
It reflects the ongoing efforts by educational institutions and law enforcement in India to combat drug abuse on university campuses.
Officials of a prominent college in Surathkal police limits caught three students in the campus with 290 gm cannabis in their possession, packed in multiple small packets.
Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said the college strengthened its monitoring system and began checking of students after the police department conducted multiple awareness drives against drug abuse.
Commending the move by the college, Mr. Reddy said, “This is an encouraging sign. Many colleges are now proactively conducting checks and their Anti-Drug Committees (ADCs) are functioning effectively. If all colleges show the same commitment, we can easily create completely drug free and healthy campuses in a very short time.”
