Collector inspects Uppur thermal power plant, urges swift completion of works
Ramanathapuram District Collector M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran inspected the progress of the Uppur Thermal Power Plant, which is 40% complete. He directed officials to expedite the remaining construction and land acquisition processes to ensure the plant meets its 1,600 MW capacity goal.

Ramanathapuram District Collector M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran inspected the ₹12,778 crore worth Uppur Thermal Power Plant project here on Tuesday.
During inspection, officials informed him that upon completion of the power plant works, it would have the capacity to generate 1,600 megawatts of electricity per hour.
They also informed him that about 40 % of the project works have been completed so far, adding that the acquisition of private lands required for this project has been fully completed, and procedures regarding the acquisition of government lands were being carried out through the revenue administration and land administration department.
Additionally, railway lines already exist from Thoothukudi to Ramanathapuram for transporting coal for the power project, and administrative sanction has been granted to acquire 284 acres of land required for the project of extending the railway track from Ramanathapuram to Uppur.
