Colleagues, students mourn teacher’s death in accident
A mathematics teacher from St. Ignatius Convent Higher Secondary School died in a road accident near Madurai. The school has declared a holiday to allow students and staff to attend her funeral.

The staff and students of St. Ignatius Convent Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai, were inconsolable after knowing about the death of mathematic teacher Siriyapushpam Thembavani, 57, in a road accident at Kottampatti near Madurai in the small hours of Monday.
Siriyapushpam was returning from Chennai to Tirunelveli along with her husband Jayaseelan, who escaped with minor injuries, when the accident that claimed six lives occurred.
“This is unbelievable and unacceptable that we have lost a hardworking, kind-hearted and jovial teacher,” said school correspondent Rev. Sr. Nirmala.
After the ticket from Chennai, where she had gone to visit her daughter, got confirmed in the eleventh hour, Siriyapushpam boarded the bus and texted to school headmistress Rev. Sr. Vasanthi that she would come to the school on Monday.
