Coimbatore defence industrial park remains a non-starter
A planned defence industrial park in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, remains undeveloped five years after its inception. Despite land allocations to several companies, no significant investment or construction has commenced.

A defence industrial park in Coimbatore mooted over five years ago remains a non-starter. The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) was supposed to develop the industrial park at Varapatti (near Sulur) in Coimbatore district on 350 acres.
Of the total land, 280 acres had been set aside for industries and MSMEs in semi-conductor, defence, and aero space sectors.
The Tamil Nadu government said last year that the park would be commissioned by the end of 2025, and the then Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had handed over letters allocating about 45 acres in total to 10 industries.
However, none of the businesses have invested in the park so far.
