Coimbatore Corporation to install 5,700 new LED streetlights
The Coimbatore Corporation is set to install 5,700 new LED streetlights to improve safety in vulnerable areas and newly developed regions. The city is also seeking a new contractor to improve maintenance and address public grievances regarding faulty lights.

The Coimbatore Corporation will install 5,700 new LED streetlights across the city, with locations identified as vulnerable to anti-social activities to be given priority.
Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja said the Corporation had obtained details of such locations from the police and would take them up in the first phase. Newly developed areas and roads without streetlights would also be covered, he said.
The Corporation currently maintains around 1.05 lakh streetlights across its 100 wards. On the operation and maintenance (O&M) contract, Mr. Ravi Teja said there had been complaints about the contractor failing to attend to faults and repair requests properly. The issue had been discussed and the Corporation was planning to invite a fresh tender to engage another agency for the work, he said.
