Coimbatore Corporation to begin bio-mining at Kavundampalayam compost yard
The Coimbatore Corporation is launching a bio-mining project at the Kavundampalayam compost yard to process nearly 91,500 tonnes of legacy waste. The initiative aims to reclaim 4.2 acres of land that has been under bio-capping for a decade.

The Coimbatore Corporation is set to commence bio-mining of legacy waste at its Kavundampalayam compost yard to reclaim a portion of the land that has remained under bio-capping for nearly a decade.
The civic body will take up bio-mining of around 91,497 tonnes of legacy waste spread over 4.2 acres at an estimated cost of ₹6.6 crore. The work is expected to be completed within six months.
Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja, along with senior officials, inspected the site on Wednesday (August 19, 2026) to review the arrangements for commencing the work. Machinery required for the project has already been installed at the site. An electricity connection is expected to be provided shortly, following which the work will commence within a day or two, officials said.
