The Coimbatore Corporation conducted a public awareness drive on rainwater harvesting, waste segregation and the harmful effects of banned plastics on Friday.
The Corporation’s Central Zone organised a rally in Ward 48 that began at the Health Inspector’s office on Second Street in Gandhipuram and passed through GP Signal, Sathy Road and Dr. Radhakrishnan Road before returning to the starting point. More than 30 Corporation workers and members of the public participated.
Saplings were distributed to members of the public. Corporation officials, employees and members of the public also signed an awareness campaign display highlighting the importance of rainwater harvesting.
At the Corporation Higher Secondary School in Rathinapuri, students spread awareness among the public about rainwater harvesting, segregating waste into four categories before handing it over to conservancy workers, and the harmful effects of plastics banned by the Tamil Nadu government.
