Coimbatore City Police warn commuters of robbers targeting those carrying bulk cash, valuables on public transport
Coimbatore City Police have issued a warning to commuters regarding organized gangs targeting individuals carrying large amounts of cash on public transport. This follows a major robbery where a businessman was relieved of over five crore rupees.

The Coimbatore City Police have warned the commuters about robbers from other States targeting those who carry large sums of cash and jewellery on public transport.
They identify potential targets, who carry cash and valuables on public transports like buses and trains, , and execute robberies similar to the one reported near Lakshmi Mills junction on September 5.
Investigations into the robbery revealed that persons from Rajasthan came to Coimbatore as two separate teams from Pune and Bengaluru to target a 66-year-old businessman from Andhra Pradesh, who carried ₹5.06 crore to purchase jewellery from the city. The robbers, who came in two different cars, targeted the businessman when he got off a private bus plying between Hyderabad and Coimbatore around 9.45 a.m.
City Police Commissioner N. Kannan said they did not use any weapon for the robbery. They snatched the bag containing the cash and got away.
