The Coimbatore City Police on Monday conducted surprise checks aimed at curbing use and sale of drugs among college students. This operation was carried out in the jurisdictions of Podanur and Kuniyamuthur ranges in the city, covering rented accommodations of college students, lodges and private hostels.

Five police Inspectors, along with their respective teams, conducted simultaneous surprise checks in Podanur, Sundarapuram, Eachanari, Kuniyamuthur, Selvapuram, B.K. Pudur, Balu Garden and Karumbukadai. Over 100 police personnel were involved in the operation.

The police stated that individuals, who are suspected to be involved in the sale and use of drugs, were kept under surveillance. Thorough checks were conducted to find out whether drugs were in circulation in the areas where college students stay, said the police.
