Coal India production up 9.2% in September

Coal India reported a 9.2% increase in production and a 12.5% rise in supplies for September 2026. The company remains optimistic about meeting its annual production targets following the end of the monsoon season.
Why it matters
As the primary energy source for India's power sector, Coal India's production metrics are a key indicator of the country's industrial and economic health.
Coal India’s production rose 9.2% year-on-year to 53.5 million tonnes (MT) in September, while supplies grew 12.5% to 61.2 MT.
Supplies to the power sector, its largest consumer, increased 10.6% to 48.9 MT. Supplies to the non-regulated sector rose 19.4%.
The state-owned miner said sustained operational momentum has strengthened its confidence in meeting its FY27 production target of 815 MT and supply target of 850 MT.
With the monsoon over, coal production and supplies are expected to pick up, it said.
