Compressed natural gas (CNG) consumers in Delhi and several other cities will have to pay more from Saturday, with Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) announcing a Rs 3.89 per kg increase in prices amid a sharp rise in the cost of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG). The revised rates will come into effect from August 29.CNG will now cost Rs 86.98 per kg in Delhi while in Noida and Ghaziabad, the revised price will be Rs 95.59 per kg. Gurugram consumers will pay Rs 92.01 per kg.IGL said the price revision was driven by higher international LNG prices, as a large portion of the gas used for CNG comes from imports. Spot LNG prices have risen sharply since the Middle East conflict began."With international LNG prices remaining elevated and the cost impact becoming increasingly significant, a calibrated revision of Rs 3.89 per kg has now become necessary to partially offset the increase in input gas cost," IGL said. How much CNG costs in your cityCityCNG price per kgDelhiRs 86.98NoidaRs 95.59GhaziabadRs 95.59MuzaffarnagarRs 95.47MeerutRs 95.47ShamliRs 95.47GurugramRs 92.01RewariRs 91.59KarnalRs 91.32KaithalRs 92.32KanpurRs 98.31HamirpurRs 98.31FatehpurRs 98.31AjmerRs 96.33PaliRs 96.33RajsamandRs 96.33MahobaRs 93.31BandaRs 93.31ChitrakootRs 93.31HapurRs 96.59Gautam Budh NagarRs 95.59Greater NoidaRs 95.59CNG prices differ across states because of variations in value-added tax structures, similar to petrol and diesel. The latest hike is the fifth increase in CNG prices this year and comes after the previous revision in May, when IGL raised prices by a cumulative Rs 6 per kg in four phases over 10 days. That increase followed a global rise in energy prices amid the Middle East conflict.Higher CNG prices have also affected freight and passenger fares in Delhi-NCR, where most auto-rickshaws, taxis and goods carriers run on the fuel. The conflict has continued for almost six months, while crude prices have risen above $90 per barrel. However, prices remain well below the earlier peak of $126 per barrel recorded during the previous phase of the conflict.Get the latest Business News and Live updates. Download the TOI app.
