CM Samrat Choudhary directs officials to submit detailed report on flood damage in Bihar

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has ordered a comprehensive report on flood damages following record-breaking water levels in the state's major rivers. The government plans to expedite relief and compensation for affected families by mid-October.
Why it matters
Effective disaster management and government response are crucial for the recovery of flood-prone regions and the welfare of displaced populations.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday (October 6, 2026) directed officials concerned to immediately submit a detailed report of damages due to flood in Bihar.
He issued the direction during a review meeting in which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin and both Deputy Chief Ministers of Bihar Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav were present along with other officials.
Mr. Choudhary said that a severe flood situation arose this year due to an unprecedented volume of water flowing into the Ganga, Gandak, and Son rivers compared to previous years. He pointed out that the accumulation of silt in riverbeds is a primary reason for river flooding.
He added that Bihar is the first State in the country to have formulated a silt policy. The Chief Minister directed that the current status of rivers and the damage caused by floods be continuously monitored.
