CM’s street campaign shows apprehension, says Kanimozhi

DMK leader Kanimozhi has criticized Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay for his extensive campaigning in the upcoming byelection. She alleges that the TVK party is misleading voters while failing to address rising crime and lack of development.
Why it matters
This highlights the intensifying political rivalry in Tamil Nadu as established parties challenge the rising influence of the TVK.
DMK deputy general secretary and Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi on Monday said the extensive campaign by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay for the byelection clearly showed that he was apprehensive about the outcome.
Addressing media persons here, she said she believed that people would vote to teach the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), a lesson for allegedly engaging in activities that could deceive people and push democracy into crisis.
Responding to a query on a Communist leader’s allegation that TVK was distributing money, Ms. Kanimozhi said they (TVK) were running the government as an ‘honest and clean force’ to such an extent that even those who supported them had now started criticising them and people should understand this.
