Clear weather prevails in north Kerala, water-logging continues in Kozhikode
Despite an orange alert, clear weather returned to parts of north Kerala, though water-logging persists in Kozhikode. Authorities have issued a red alert for several districts as relief camps continue to house over 900 displaced people.
Why it matters
The report tracks the ongoing impact of monsoon-related weather events on infrastructure and public safety in Kerala.
Despite the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert forecasting heavy rainfall for north Kerala districts on Tuesday, clear weather prevailed in most parts of the region till forenoon.
Heavy rains had lashed the six districts in the region for the past three days. On Tuesday morning, warm and sunny weather returned to districts such as Kozhikode. However, the IMD authorities in the afternoon (1 p.m.) issued a red alert for Kozhikode, Kannur, Wayanad, and Kasaragod and an orange alert for Malappuram and Palakkad. A significant lull in precipitation is expected on Wednesday as rainfall drops to light-to-moderate levels (2.5 mm to 64.4 mm), bringing a green status across all six districts.
