Cleanup of Rīga's parks could take a month
Rīga is facing a month-long cleanup effort following a severe storm that caused significant damage to parks, forests, and the city zoo. Authorities are prioritizing the removal of hazards in high-traffic areas while warning citizens to remain cautious due to lingering risks from unstable trees.

The company plans to assess all storm damage this week. In heavily used areas, the most significant hazards are expected to be addressed this week, but it is forecast that it will take at least a month to fully clear up the aftermath of the storm and restore all affected areas. In certain forest and recreational areas, the work may take even longer. So far, more than 250 trees that have been toppled or snapped by the storm have been identified in Rīga’s gardens, parks and green spaces. The parks in central Rīga, Dzegužkalns and Pļavnieku birzs, have suffered the most damage. “Rīgas meži” has reported that there are still many snapped and broken branches in the parks, as well as trees that are leaning or tilted, and trees whose root systems have been loosened or uprooted by the strong winds and heavy rain.
