The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board organised a clean-up drive at Sothavilai beach on Saturday with the participation of Kanniyakumari Collector M. Prathap.

Speaking at the event Mr. Prathap said the clean-up drive was organised as part of the International Coastal Cleanup Day which is observed on the third Saturday of September every year. He added that Kanniyakumari district is unique with its long coastal stretch and beaches and stressed that keeping the beaches clean was crucial in protecting the coastal ecosystem and preventing plastic waste from posing threat to marine life.

The Collector noted that maintaining clean beaches was also important as a large number of tourists visit Kanniyakumari district and clean beaches would provide them with a pleasant experience.
