A 13-year-old class 7 student allegedly attempted to end his life after being made to stand outside his classroom for an entire school day over a minor act of mischief at a private school in west Bengaluru.
The incident occurred on Tuesday under the jurisdiction of the Jnanabharathi Police Station. The boy was rushed to a hospital by his family and is currently undergoing treatment. The police said his condition is stable and he remains under medical observation.
The boy, belonging to the Dalit community, was admitted to a private school in Jnanabharati police station limits under the RTE quota. His father claimed that the boy had been complaining of harassment from school staff using “casteist slurs”. He refused to go to school, and the parents had allegedly assured him that he would be admitted to another school upon completion of the term.
