A team led by Arakkonam Taluk Supply Officer of the Department of Civil Supplies seized one tonne of rice meant for supply under the Public Distribution System (PDS) at a railway station in Arakkonam town on Wednesday.
The police said that as per the orders of Collector N. Priya Ravichandran, special teams comprising police personnel and Civil Supplies officials were formed to prevent smuggling of PDS rice in the district. During a surprise check at the railway station, the team found 22 bags of PDS rice. The seized rice was sent to a godown maintained by the Department of Civil Supplies in Ranipet.
