The Tiruchi City Corporation has stepped up efforts to prevent the spread of dengue, scrub typhus, and leptospirosis ahead of the onset of northeast monsoon.

On Saturday, City Health Officer M. Karthikeyan led an in-service training session for field workers engaged in mosquito extermination and raising public awareness about prevention of the infectious diseases in Tiruchi.

District epidemiologist Mathivanan and District Malaria Officer Murugesan were present.

Participants were briefed on preventive measures and with emphasis on checking for water stagnation in public spaces, locked homes, and construction sites and other potential disease hotspots.

Workers were advised to inspect homes, commercial buildings, and construction sites and destroy old tyres, coconut husks, vessels, and other objects that could harbour mosquito breeding.
