City Rail Link: Public gets first look inside Karanga
Thousands of Auckland residents visited the new Karanga-a-Hape station as part of a public preview for the City Rail Link project. Despite significant budget blowouts and construction delays, officials hope the infrastructure will support long-term urban growth.

“Yeah, but without the crowds and the rotten weather,” another replied.
There were, probably, many more similar exchanges as thousands flocked to get a first look at the Karanga-a-Hape Station on Saturday, part of the City Rail Link (CRL) which opens next month after a decade of construction.
It was the second of three events to show off the brand-new stations, built as part of the CRL.
Described by Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown as costing too much and taking too long, he predicted the new network would help Auckland keep moving and support its growth for decades.
