‘City of Tanks and Lakes’ plan reaches DPR stage in Tirupati
Tirupati officials have moved to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage for the 'City of Tanks and Lakes' project, aimed at restoring the city's water management infrastructure. The initiative seeks to mitigate flood risks and improve groundwater recharge through the rejuvenation of 23 water bodies.
Why it matters
Urban water management is critical for climate resilience in rapidly growing Indian cities prone to flooding.
Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s pet project, ‘Tirupati – City of Tanks and Lakes’, has progressed to the stage of preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR), with the Tirupati Municipal Corporation (TMC) and the Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) deciding to adopt an integrated approach for the city’s long-term water management.
The report is a factual account of municipal planning and infrastructure development without political bias.
