CITU welcomes SC order lifting ban on manufacturing joined crackers

The CITU-affiliated Fireworks Matches Workers Association has welcomed a Supreme Court order that lifts the ban on manufacturing and using joined green crackers. The association, which previously protested against the ban, is now urging the government to also lift restrictions on barium nitrate.

Virudhunagar District CITU - Fireworks Matches Workers Association has welcomed the Supreme Court judgement on Wednesday lifting the ban on manufacturing and bursting of next generation joined green crackers.
In a statement the association president, P. N. Deva and its general secretary, M. C. Pandian, said that joined crackers was a popular fireworks goods in festivals, victory celebrations and in some places even during funerals.
The joined crackers are used by people from all religions and it constitutes around 40% of the total production of fireworks, the association said.
After its ban by the Centre, the CITU had conducted a series of protest against banning joined crackers and also Barium Nitrate which was an important chemical in fireworks production.
