The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Andhra Pradesh State committee has extended its support to the indefinite statewide strike by 14,600 employees of the Andhra Pradesh Medical and Health Contract Employees Joint Action Committee (JAC), with the agitation entering its third day on Thursday.
CITU State president Ch. Narsinga Rao, who addressed the strike camp at King George Hospital, urged the State government to intervene and resolve the employees’ grievances.
He demanded that the showcause notices issued to the striking employees be withdrawn and that officials stop threatening them. He said direct-contract staff nurses, laboratory technicians, pharmacists and other paramedical personnel who had been working in the medical and health department for 16 years should be regularised.
Mr. Narsinga Rao also urged the government to take into consideration the High Court judgment cited by the employees in support of their demand for regularisation.
