CIIL Director calls for scientific analysis of Kannada inscriptions
Prof. Basavaraja Kodagunti of the CIIL has called for a more systematic and scientific analysis of Kannada inscriptions. He emphasized the need to preserve epigraphical heritage and encouraged participation in digital archiving projects.

Director of the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru, Prof. Basavaraja Kodagunti, on Wednesday underscored the need for the theoretical isolation and systematic scientific analysis of inscriptions.
Speaking at a workshop organised by the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada here, he said the workshop would greatly benefit teachers, researchers and PhD scholars engaged in epigraphical and linguistic studies.
“Scientific studies on inscriptions are still limited, despite the fact that an eighth-century Rashtrakuta inscription contains precise references to time calculations. Such inscriptions need to be systematically analysed,” he suggested.
