Churchill based man confirmed dead after water tragedy in Portugal

Michael Carroll, a 64-year-old resident of Churchill, Donegal, has died following a drowning incident at a beach in Alvor, Portugal. Local emergency services attempted resuscitation, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 64-year-old man who died after getting into difficulties in the water off a beach in Alvor, Portugal at the weekend had been living in Donegal.
Michael Carroll, a native of London with family roots in Cork, had moved to Churchill six years ago.
Portuguese media say when emergency services reached the scene on Saturday morning, he had already been pulled from the water by members of the public, with lifeguards on duty nearby trying to resuscitate him.
Arrangements are now being made to bring Mr Carroll’s body back to Churchill.
