Christian Watson spat up blood, broke a rib, went to the hospital and returned to the game

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson returned to an NFL game after being hospitalized for a broken rib and spitting up blood. Watson insisted on playing through the injury, emphasizing his commitment to the sport.
Why it matters
The story raises questions about athlete safety protocols and the culture of playing through severe physical trauma in professional sports.
Packers wide receiver Christian Watson left Lambeau Field in an ambulance on Thursday night after breaking a rib and spitting up blood, but he later returned to the field and said after the game that he never doubted whether he should play through it.
“I was spitting up some blood or something like that, so the doctor said I had to go get a CT,” Watson said. “I was trying to beg him to not make me do that. I got a rib, that’s all, but the other stuff was good. No internal bleeding, nothing like that.”
Watson said he would always play through pain if he possibly could.
