Chittoor SP urges public to stay calm if bank accounts are frozen; verify causes first

Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi urged the public to stay calm and not panic if their bank accounts are frozen and first ascertain the reason behind the restriction.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday (September 27, 2026), the SP said bank accounts could face a debit freeze, lien, hold or other curbs due to a cybercrime probe, legal directions or regulatory reasons. “Even if a person is not directly involved, the account may come under scrutiny if cybercrime-linked money was routed through it,” he said.

Explaining the procedure, the SP said account holders should first contact the bank for clarity on the type of restriction and obtain a complaint or reference number, police station’s purview, and investigating officer details.
