Chittoor police destroy 5,000 litres of jaggery wash

Chittoor police destroyed 5,000 litres of illicit jaggery wash during a raid in forest areas to curb illegal liquor production. Authorities warned that such operations will continue to maintain law and order in the district.
Why it matters
Illicit liquor production poses significant health risks to the public and is often linked to organized crime.
Chittoor police destroyed about 5,000 litres of jaggery wash during a cordon and search operation in Yanadi Colony and Gudduru forest under Ramakuppam police station limits on Sunday.
Under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Dudi and Additional SP (Kuppam) Hemanth Boddu, the Kuppam Rural Circle Inspector Mallesh Yadav led teams along with personnel from Rallabuduguru and Ramakuppam police stations, combing forest patches suspected of being used for illicit brewing.
The SP said thorough checking led to detection of fermented jaggery wash stored in drums for arrack preparation. The entire stock was destroyed on the spot, he added.
The police also checked rowdy sheeters and verified their movements as part of preventive measures against anti-social activities.
