CHIMP SPORT: Uganda Cranes Regroup for Zanzibar Friendly

The Uganda Cranes national football team is set to play a friendly match against Zanzibar to celebrate the latter's centenary. The match serves as a replacement for cancelled fixtures in Morocco and allows the coach to evaluate local talent.
Why it matters
The event highlights the importance of regional sports diplomacy and the development of local football infrastructure in East Africa.
The Uganda Cranes will return to action this week with a friendly match against Zanzibar after previously planned international friendlies in Morocco failed to materialize. FUFA confirmed that Uganda has accepted an invitation from the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) to participate in its centenary celebrations, with the Cranes set to face the hosts on June 11, 2026, at the newly inaugurated Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar. The fixture offers head coach Paul Put an alternative opportunity to assess local talent after the cancellation of the Morocco training camp and friendly matches that had initially been lined up for the national team during the June international window.
