CHIMP SPORT: Gov’t Clears Shs5.5Bn for UPL Clubs

Uganda’s 18 Premier League clubs are a step closer to accessing Shs5.5 billion in government support after the National Council of Sports (NCS) completed the financial registration of the clubs.

In a September 18 communication, NCS confirmed that the bank details of all Premier League clubs had been uploaded onto the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS), allowing the payment process to move forward.

The funding, provided for under the 2026/27 financial year, will see each club receive Shs305.6 million over the course of the year.

The clubs, however, will not access the full amount immediately. The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has released 50 percent of the annual subvention for the first quarter, meaning each club is eligible for an initial Shs152.8 million.

Release of the money is subject to the clubs submitting detailed work plans and budgets to NCS.
