Child rights panel orders probe into pregnancy of minor girl at tribal welfare school in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) has ordered a thorough inquiry into the pregnancy of a Class IX girl at a Tribal Welfare Residential School in Polavaram district.
The girl, who was found to be two months pregnant, is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Following a report published in The Hindu , the APSCPCR directed the officials concerned to ensure the girl’s safety and take action against those responsible.
The school principal, hostel warden and a teacher were suspended, while the police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, against the hostel cook and arrested him, said APSCPCR member Vundavalli Gandhi Babu.
