Chikkamagaluru: Electors reduced by over 96,000
The Chikkamagaluru district administration has released a revised draft voters' list showing a reduction of over 96,000 electors due to the removal of duplicate, dead, or shifted entries. The district has also expanded its polling station network to improve accessibility.
Why it matters
Maintaining accurate voter rolls is essential for the integrity of the democratic process and ensuring fair representation in local and national elections.
The revised draft voters’ list published by the Chikkamagaluru district administration, as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), shows the district has 8,63,516 voters, against 9,60,231 voters on the earlier list. As many as 96,715 names had been listed under the Absent, Shifted, Duplicate, Dead and Others (ASDDO) categories.
Chikkamagaluru Deputy Commissioner Bhanwar Singh Meena, addressing a press conference in the district on Monday (August 24), said the draft voters’ list was available for the public to access and file objections, if any. Of those on the list, 4,24,792 are men, 4,38,707 are women, and 17 are others.
