The district-level Chief Minister’s Trophy sports competitions for 2026-27 began in Salem on Wednesday (September 9, 2026), with events being conducted across the district in five categories — school and college students, general category, persons with disabilities and government employees.

The district Collector K. Elambahavath inaugurated the competitions that will go on till September 22 at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium. The competitions, organised by the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, are aimed at encouraging students, women, and persons with disabilities to participate in sports and excel in them, the Collector said.

A wide range of events, including athletics, basketball, kabaddi, silambam, volleyball, handball, badminton, cricket, football, hockey, table tennis, carrom, kho-kho, chess, speed skating, yoga and swimming, are being conducted at various venues in Salem.
