The Greater Chennai Traffic Police organized a helmet awareness rally to promote road safety and compliance among two-wheeler riders. Officials noted a decline in accidents due to stricter enforcement and public awareness campaigns.
Why it matters
Public safety initiatives and traffic management are critical for urban infrastructure and reducing mortality rates in high-density cities.
The Greater Chennai Traffic Police conducted a helmet awareness rally on Thursday. The rally was launched by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic East District, S. Megalina Eden, on Sivananda Salai. Students from three colleges, traffic wardens, and traffic police personnel participated.
Ms. Eden said road accidents had declined compared with last year, mainly due to awareness programmes led by the police, greater public awareness, greater compliance with helmet rules among two-wheeler riders, strict enforcement, and fines issued based on automatic number plate recognition camera footage.
