Chennai police launches anti-corruption special unit
The Greater Chennai Police has launched an Anti-Corruption Special Unit to combat bribery within the force. Commissioner A. Amalraj has encouraged the public to report instances of corruption via a dedicated helpline.

For the first time, the Greater Chennai Police has established an Anti-Corruption Special Unit to prevent corruption and bribery among police personnel. The initiative has been launched by Greater Chennai Police Commissioner A. Amalraj.
Mr. Amalraj told The Hindu , “This unit has been launched at the commissionerate to prevent police personnel from demanding or accepting bribes. Members of the public can lodge complaints through the helpline. On receiving a complaint, we will conduct a proper inquiry and, if a case is made out, take appropriate action against those involved without delay.”
While the majority of police personnel, from constables to senior officers, discharge their duties honestly without accepting bribes, the misconduct of a few individuals brings disrepute to the department, the police said.
