Chebani dumps BCP for BNF

Chebani, who is well known in Francistown and Nshakazhogwe, has moved through the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) and Botswana Congress Party (BCP) before finding political home in the BNF political. The BNF is an affiliate of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC). Consequently, Chebani’s move places him within a political formation that has taken over the running of government after the BDP’s long tenure in power. Although the BNF has had a presence in the north-east, the party has historically faced competition from other political formations in the region. Chebani’s decision, however, comes at a time when the BNF's position within the governing UDC has given it greater prominence. Explaining his departure from the BDP, Chebani said he resigned because of allegations of widespread corruption associated with the party. “I resigned from the BDP because it is a party marred by allegations of rampant corruption,” he said.
