Charges framed in custodial death case: Four more police personnel remanded

Framing charges against the accused police personnel in the Sivaganga custodial death case of temple security guard B. Ajith Kumar, the Fifth Additional Sessions Court, Madurai, on Thursday remanded four accused persons in judicial custody.
Judge K. Dhamodharan was hearing the case for framing of charge. The charges were framed against 10 accused police personnel, including under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The CBI filed a chargesheet and a supplementary chargesheet in the case. Five police personnel — S. Raja, A. Anand, S. Sankaramanikandan, G. Prabhu and G. Kannan — were arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Subsequently, police driver P. Ramachandran was remanded in judicial custody.
In the supplementary chargesheet, the CBI additionally named former Manamadurai Deputy Superintendent of Police N. Shanmugasundaram, former Thirupuvanam Inspector S.P. Ramesh Kumar, former Sub-Inspector S. Sivakumar and former Head Constable G. Ilayaraja, as accused.
